"We cannot teach people anything, we can only help them discover it within themselves." — Galileo
Life lessons present as a catalyst for change. When I was twenty-four I was under an incredible amount of stress: I just graduated with a bachelors of social work; got married; moved to a new city; and started a new job doing social work at a hospital— I could barely breathe. I don't mean that as a figure of speech. For some reason I could not take a full breath. It always felt like I had just finished running a race. I started pondering my situation and through a process of self-reflection I came to realize that my inability to breathe freely was not work related at all. The cause of this effect became evident to me. I had just lost my mother unexpectedly the previous year and this was my body's response. As I continued to examine my self, I came to realize this was part of
my life's journey. Through an exploratory process of reflection and unfoldment, I've been able to release my own chains of fear and sorrow, binding emotional attachments, and rigid mindsets, and in doing so, regained a healthy lung capacity. This is how I first learned about the mindbody connection. I have come a long way since I was twenty-four but, as we all are, am still on this journey today.
As an Integrative Counselor, I create the framework for your quest toward self-realization. I guide you through your own inner journey to further insights. Sometimes self-inquiry can be very difficult. It is not easy to search out the parts of oneself that have been hidden away. It can be painful. It can be scary. But that is why I am here, to provide a safe space for this soulful exploration to take place.
I further this process by using experiential exercises. Upon a foundation of guided imagery, I weave sounds and sacred symbols (a sound mandala). With this guidance, a healing potential magnifies, stressors diffuse, emotional attachments dissolve and insights deepen.
In addition, I teach how to enhance emotional intelligence and kinesthetic awareness (your body's signals), and maintain proper focus (essential for eliciting the relaxation response). With these tools, you can "get out of your own way" and build your own bridge to self-transformation. And so it goes . . . a calm wave of breath presents, poised in presence while a loving ripple effect goes forth into the world.
